Table 3.5 An example of EMP
Project activities
Environmental impact
Mitigation measures
I. Construction phase
1. Land environment
Site clearance, vehicular movement,
excavation, muck disposal, loading and
unloading of sand, and aggregates
Soil erosion, dust
generation
Provide vegetative cover to reduce soil erosion
Sprinkle water to reduce dust emission
Provide personnel protective equipment (PPE)
Regulate vehicular movement
Excavation, heavy earth moving vehicles,
muck disposal
Soil compaction
Provide separate paved road for heavy vehicles
Use of DG sets, solid waste generation from
labour camps, construction of labour camps
Decline of soil quality
The domestic solid waste will be disposed in nearby municipal landfills
Oil spillages from DG sets will be collected and handed over to authorized
recyclers
2. Water environment
Construction canal, weirs, etc.
Pollution of streams
The project envisages lifting of water from streams for drinking water and
underground recharge purpose. Summer season is selected for the
construction of weir and the water can be stopped by using sand bags to avoid
carry forward of pollutants
Construction of labour camps
Deterioration surface and
groundwater quality
The sewage from labour camps will be treated in septic tank and soak pits
3. Air environment
Excavation, movement of vehicles, loading
and unloading of sand, aggregates, etc.,
operation of DG set
Fugitive dust emission,
wilting of plants
The vehicles and DG set using petrol or diesel will be properly maintained to
avoid air pollution
All roads to be used by the vehicles for project authorities shall be paved/
sprinkled
The workers shall be provided with PPE such as nose masks and goggles to
reduce impact on health
A greenbelt shall be developed in and around the boundary of the project
