EIA preparation is usually consultant commissioned by originator. The exercise
involves the following steps:
• Baseline study
• Impact prediction
• Preparation of an Environmental Management Plan
• Preparation of a monitoring plan
The activity/study is done to forecast possible positive and negative impact and
take decision to:
• Cancel project
• Choose alternative site
• Choose alternative technology/project
• Change in project component
• Make environmental management plan or monitoring plan
3.2 Baseline Data Collection and Analysis
This activity is carried out for the collection of information about physico-chemical,
biological as well as socio-economic status of the environmental locations where
upcoming project/development is envisaged.
Baseline data are of two types: secondary and primary. Secondary data are the
data which are already available in different institutions and published literature.
Primary data are the data collected in the field.
