Radiation exposures of 5–10 rem normally are not harmful to health. Acute radiation syndrome occurs at radiation more than 75 rad (0.75gray) in a small time span
(minutes to hours). Foetuses and children are sensitive to radiation exposure as the
cells in foetuses and children divide rapidly, giving further opportunity for radiation
to cause cell damage.
