prohibition of disposing of certain wastes into the sea and the prohibition of catching
fish that still do not have adult size. The concept of pamali is not only a mechanism
of local wisdom to protect the environment, but, for the Bajo, the concept is the way
of life, cosmology, and spiritual beliefs of the Bajo people. Without realizing it, by
obeying the rules or pamali, the preservation of marine and coastal ecosystems will
be maintained. Thus, indirectly the Bajo tribe has made efforts to preserve the marine
and coastal ecosystems.
Climate change faced by Bajo fishermen is shifting and changing seasons, rising
tide of seawater or rob, rising temperatures, and increasing storm intensity. Climate
change has also had an impact on the livelihoods of Bajo fishermen in determining the
time and location of the sea and the reduced number of catches. Climate change that
occurs has an impact on the economic aspects that lead to the reduced level of welfare
of fishermen. Bajo fishermen try to deal with these changes by adopting adaptation
strategies that aim to keep them alive. The adaptation strategy that is carried out
is by reconstructing the knowledge back about nature and maximizing the use of
lempara fishing gear which is considered in accordance with existing environmental
conditions.
