Human resource development (SDM) based on local wisdom is guided by local
wisdom values as a criterion that determines a quality for action. As a criterion,
local wisdom can also be a foothold for the development of learning for people
with more character. Local wisdom can be expressed as science or technology that
takes place as human efforts to face life’s challenges. Local wisdom owned by the
Bajo people in various coastal areas of Indonesia can be the basis and direction in
achieving a goal related to the improvement of Bajo Human Resources, especially
in the economic sector to increase income or family income. The activity must
be carried out, considering that the phenomenon of natural events in the form
of climate change cannot be predicted anymore by relying on the knowledge of
local wisdom obtained. As a result, the tradition of going to sea as a day-to-day
job in fulfilling the daily necessities of living in the home also ended in a decline
in income, not even enough.
Therefore, innovative and creative economic developments are needed so that
the life needs can be fulfilled. One such effort is to improve human resources
based on local wisdom, especially in the sector of fisheries production or other
sectors based on the geographical conditions of the residential area. Local wisdom
is a historical fact that can be developed to empower coastal communities
through human resources, natural resources, and marine resources in improving
processing, production, fisheries development, and marine tourism. Therefore,
the same understanding is needed by coastal communities to understand local
wisdom and maritime culture in order to increase marine and fisheries production. The involvement of elements of knowledge and technology really requires
the ability of Human Resources to develop old traditions into something that has
more economic value. At present, with the phenomenon of weather uncertainty
due to climate change, the Bajo people are no longer just collecting catches
from the sea. However, you have to think about the attributes of arrest, alternative livelihoods, ways to collect capital, labor, and market distribution systems.
This can be done if the potential of the Human Resources owned increases and
becomes a new force in maintaining and increasing the family economy in the
midst of the effects of climate change.
Thus, the elements of knowledge and technology in question include the meaning
of technology, knowledge of production tools, and techniques of making and
utilizing technology. The meaning of technology that guarantees survival for
himself and his grandchildren is technology that is not destructive to the environment; therefore, the marine environment is a shared responsibility not to be
damaged. With the understanding of technology that does not damage the environment, every capture technology made by the community must incorporate
these non-destructive noble values. From this point of view, it is felt in the field
that the people use their fishing gear in the form of their technology that is environmentally friendly and maintained together. The fishing gear used in the form
of boats, fishing rods, traps, and nets is passive in size and still small in scale.
The technology of fishing gear used by coastal communities is the technological inheritance of previous generations of fishermen, and the technology has
been very compatible with the marine environment where their lives are. So, the
