Preservation of local wisdom by itself will help themto preserve the village environment they live in. Because the values of local wisdom will make the community have a strong character in accordance with the culture and norms applicable in
their environment. In addition, villages directly adjacent to the conservation area will
preserve conservation areas because usually the area is closely related to the values of
local wisdom adopted. Conservation activities in an area should come from community awareness in the region concerned. Awareness of the importance of maintaining
biodiversity is needed not only for the interests of the Indonesian people but also
for the benefit of the world community as a whole and directed toward long-term
interests.
Related to the local wisdom of the Bajo people in Southeast Sulawesi in maintaining the sustainability of the coast and the sea, it can be seen from the surrounding
environment of the Bajo community where mangrove ecosystems, seagrass beds,
and coral reefs are still well maintained. This condition does not appear in other
coastal communities. The Bajo community that inhabits the coastal area in Southeast
Sulawesi has an emotional closeness to the SDA, which gives birth to real ecological
considerations. Bajo people generally make a living as fishermen. His daily activities
are very dependent on the coast and the sea. It can be said that 99.99% of the natural
resources they use for everyday life are those from the coast and the sea around their
homes.
The Bajo people have a myth that the Gods made oceans for the Bajo people.
There is a concept similar to the one in laok (sea belonging to the Bajo people),
which means that the land environment is for land people. On the progress of the
times and economic needs, now most of the Bajo in various regions have settled.
Nevertheless, they still settled on the coast at the top of the sea, not on land.
The Bajo community has local wisdom in the form of traditions, rules, or hereditary taboos that are practiced, nurtured, and adhered to by the Bajo community.
Overcoming the ecological crisis is not merely a technical matter, but it needs to
be traced to the intricacies of human spirituality, the outlook on life, and awareness of nature and ecological behavior. For this reason, we need human ecological
intelligence, in the form of understanding and translating human relations with all
elements and other living things. Ecologically intelligent human beings, he said,
put themselves as environmental controls as outlined in real attitudes and behaviors
when treating nature. The universe is not only a source of exploitation but a house
of shared life that continues to be protected, cared for, laid out, and not destroyed.
Based on the description above, the local wisdom of the Bajo people can be
grouped in several ways, including.
1. Local Wisdom Meaning Ethics and Morals;
In relation to maintaining ancestral traditions, the emotional closeness of the
Bajo community with Marine Resources (SDL) gave rise to the mamia kadialo
tradition. The mamia kadialo tradition is in the form of grouping people when
they go to sea for a certain period of time and the boat used. There are three
groups of this tradition: palilibu, bapongka, and sasakai.
