Management of Coastal Resources (SDP) must be done wisely and sustainably
because coastal and marine areas have a variety of biodiversity that have their respective roles and functions in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem. This biodiversity
is a potential resource that can support the lives of coastal communities in improving
the quality of life better. Therefore, in order to achieve sustainable and effective
management, identification and direction of utilization of the potential resources is
needed. As is known, a coastal region is in which there is one or more environmental
systems (ecosystem) and SDP. Coastal ecosystems can be either natural or artificial (man-made). Natural ecosystems in coastal areas include coral reefs, mangrove
forests, seagrass, sandy beaches, pes-caprae formations, baringtonia, estuary, lagoon,
and delta formations. Artificial ecosystems include tidal rice field, tourism area,
industrial area, agro-industrial area, and residential area. SDP is one of the natural
resources that is widely used by the community, but the utilization of these resources
to date has not paid attention to its sustainability; as a result, there has been a decline
in function, quality, and biodiversity.
Rokhimin Dahuri states that the SDP potential is generally divided into four
groups, among others, as follows: (1) Resources that can be recovered (renewable
resources); (2) Resources that cannot be recovered (non-renewable resources); (3)
Marine energy; and (4) Environmental services.
Traditional knowledge (traditional knowledge) or local wisdom in managing
natural resources plays an important role in conservation and sustainable management. According to the Indonesian dictionary, local wisdom comes from two wise
words, namely wise and local is happening somewhere or unevenly.
Understanding of local wisdom is seen from an English–Indonesian dictionary,
consisting of two words, namely wisdom and local. Local means local and wisdom
equal wisdom. In other words, local wisdom can be understood as ideas, values, local
views that are wise, full of wisdom, good value, embedded and followed by members
of the community. In anthropological disciplines, it is known as local genius. This
local genius is the first term introduced by Quaritch Wales. Anthropologists discuss
at length the notion of local genius, including Haryati Soebadio who said that local
genius is also a cultural identity, identity/personality of the national culture that
causes the nation to be able to absorb and cultivate foreign cultures according to
their own character and abilities.
While Moendardjito said that the element of regional culture is potential as a local
genius because it has proven its ability to survive until now. Its characteristics are
