life and livelihoods of both the community and the government. This is inseparable
from the geographical location and the nervous conditions of Southeast Sulawesi
Province which are very vulnerable to various natural disasters. The livelihoods of
the majority still depend on natural resource management from the agriculture and
fisheries sectors, increasing the level of risk from the threat of climate change impacts.
Noting these matters, it can be said that Southeast Sulawesi Province is one of the
most vulnerable regions to the negative impacts of climate change, so it is natural that
Southeast Sulawesi Province seeks to overcome and face the challenges of climate
change and global warming that affect human life, especially for the Bajo people.
Bajo Tribe
Indonesia is a country rich in customs and diverse cultures, and has several elements
of culture as indicators that can apply to all ethnic groups in Indonesia. As an example,
the Bajo people are commonly called sea nomads or boat people because since ancient
times they were true sea adventurers who lived entirely on simple boats. The Bajo
have their own ethical and cultural systems. The system becomes their guideline
(read Bajo) and directs their daily lives from generation to generation. Their culture
includes various rules that result from their experience and spirituality with their
lives dependent entirely on nature. Because their whole life is faced with the sea, the
characteristics of their social, cultural, and economic life were greatly influenced by
their views on the forces of nature which surrounded everyday life. The existence
of the Bajo community in a coastal area has an emotional closeness to SDA which
gives birth to real behavior by considering ecology in their daily lives. The closeness
of the Bajo people with the sea and coast allows them to have a variety of local
knowledge about the symptoms of nature. There are natural symptoms and signs of
the atmosphere that are still used by the Bajo people when they sail. This ethical,
custom, and cultural system has proven to be able to make the Bajo community
to survive and live in harmony with the coastal and oceanic areas to become their
livelihood until now. Wisdom and local knowledge are the result of a long process
from generation to generation.
The Bajo people also have a philosophy “Papu Manak Ita Lino Bake Isi-Isina,
Kitanaja Manusia Mamikira Bhatingga Kolekna Mangelolana,” meaning God has
given this world all its contents, we as humans think about how to obtain and use
it so that the sea and its results are a place to pursue life and defend themselves
while continuing to pass on the ancestral culture of the Bajo. The Bajo people call
themselves the Same Tribe, and call the people outside their tribe the Bagai Tribe.
The Bajo people are a tribe that originally lived on a boat always in the ocean. The
boat is called leppa or Soppe or bidoa.
The Bajo are a tribe often referred to as the sea tribe because they depend on the
sea for the fulfillment of their daily lives. Even in the past, almost all of their life was
spent on a boat constantly navigating the ocean. The Bajo are widely spread. Like
other cultures, the Bajo also have their own ethical and cultural systems. The system
