4.2 Additional comments
The thematic analysis provided further insight into women’s views and opinions
which presented themes of concern, regarding how the clothing might align with the
wearer’s lifestyle. Example quotes from participants are presented to support and
provide context to the themes identified.
4.2.1 Aesthetics

comfortable. If it’s neither of those things then I wouldn’t wear it.
(P435 – Overweight BMI. Non-exerciser, trying to lose weight)
4.2.2 Comfort
I believe I would move less with clothing which feels awkward to move in.
(P329 – Obese BMI. exerciser, trying to lose weight)
4.2.3 Resistance Level
Would prefer little changes throughout the entire day rather than a big difference over a short
time e.g. commute.

5 Discussion and Future Work
The purpose of this study was to explore the potential interest of functional clothing
to optimise metabolic consumption. No previous research was found to explore this
and thus, data could not be compared against previous findings. The sample size was
large enough to present valuable insights of the women interested their motivations
to wear the clothing and where they would prefer to wear it. Overall, there appears to
be an apparent interest across all BMI categories, however, differences are presented
regarding when women would prefer to wear the clothing and what would motivate
them to wear it. This poses the challenge of delivering such clothes that would fit
