2.6 Determination of Crease Recovery
The crease behavior was as per IS 4681–1981 test method. Five tests of each sample
in warp and weft direction were taken and an average value of crease recovery angle
was calculated.
2.7 Determination of Durability of Finishes to Laundry
The durability of finishes to laundry was determined by subjecting the finish-applied
samples to laundry cycles as per ISO 6330:1984 standard. After laundry the samples
were evaluated for microbe reaction and/or penetration as per AATCC 100.
2.8 Determination of Transmission
Air permeability was determined in accordance with test method ASTM D-737-96.
The thermal conductivity test was conducted for the comparison with results obtained
using the standard unit and test method ASTM D-1518. Standard test method used
for water vapor transmission of materials was ASTM E-96 Procedure B.
2.9 Determination of Mechanical Properties
The method IS 1969-1, mainly applicable to woven textile fabrics, was used to
determine the tensile strength. The tear strength was measured as per ASTM D-412
standard test method and Elmendorf tear tester. The test method for abrasion ISO
12947–1:1998 pertains to determination of the abrasion resistance of fabrics by the
Martindale method.
3 Results and Discussions
The preliminary experimental work was carried out to get an insight into the various
commercially available anti-microbial finishes, their recommended recipes, also
effect on the reactive and indigo dyed fabric.
The anti-microbial finish was applied in 1:10 MLR exhaust method and with 2 %
prepared solution. The same concentration, as given in Table 10, is used for every
three types of finishes (Tables 11 and 12).
