2 Materials and Methods
2.1 Materials
2.1.1 Fabrics
100 % cotton denim fabrics with the following specifications were used (Table 1).
For all the experiments, reactive and/or indigo dyed, de-sized, enzyme/biowashed, softened (silicon softener) fabrics were used.
2.1.2 Chemicals
Commercially available anti-microbial finishes that are polymer of silane quaternary ammonium compound were selected, namely Sanigard 7500 (L.N. Chemical),
Fabsheild AEM 5700, and Microban PB 80150-050 (Rossari Biotech Limited).
Commercially available flame-retardant finishes such as Glogard-CP-New with Fixer
ALN and Modfinish HDNI (L.N. Chemical) were selected and used in a proportion
as per the fabric weights.
Quest-AQ (L.N. Chemical) and Inovasof SRW-N, Roswik 14-H, Rosil GETZ
(Rossari Biotech Limited) were the two types of moisture management chemicals
selected. Aquarepel XC-830 with Aquarepel XAN and Aquarepel XC-630 (L.N.
Chemical) were two stain release or soil release finishes selected.
2.1.3 Preparation of Fabrics
The dark indigo and reactive dyed denim was washed with different chemicals to
make the fabric de-sized, less lint producing, soft, and comfortable for the wearer.
The process included the following steps and chemicals:
De-sizing (Table 2):
Enzyme/Bio-washing (Table 3):
Softening (Table 4):
