René van Swaaij studied physics at Utrecht University and did his PhD on amorphous
silicon photoconductors at the same university. After working in the United Kingdom
René came to Delft University of Technology, where he was appointed as associate
professor in 2002. From 2009 onwards he works in PVMD group. His research interests
lie mainly with silicon based solar-cell technology, in particular the processing of and
physics underlying the operation of thin-film silicon solar cells and silicon heterojunction
solar cells. René lectures on semiconductor physics and photovoltaic technologies.
Miro Zeman graduated in materials science from Slovak University of Technology in
Bratislava in 1981. He received his PhD degree at the same university in 1989 for research
on amorphous silicon alloys. Subsequently he joined Delft University of Technology in
the Netherlands where he was appointed associate professor in 2001 and started lecturing
a course on solar cells. In 2009 he was appointed full professor at Delft University of
Technology for the chair of Photovoltaic Materials and Devices in the department of
Electrical Sustainable Energy, of which he is the head since 2011.
