Arno Smets studied physics at Eindhoven University of Technology, where he pursued a
PhD in plasma processing of silicon. He has worked several years as PV researcher at
AIST in Japan. Since November 2015 Arno is full professor within the group Photovoltaic
Materials and Devices (PVMD) at Delft University of Technology. His research interests
range from fundamental silicon material research, solar fuels to PV system design. Arno
lectures on photovoltaics at the university and in the Massive Open Online Course
(MOOC) on edX and Edraak.
Klaus Jäger studied physics at the University of Innsbruck, and obtained his diploma in
physics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich in 2008. In 2012 he
obtained his PhD degree from Delft University of Technology. After working in industry
and a research position in Delft, he became a researcher at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin
in 2015. His main research interest is nanophotonics for solar energy, where he currently
focuses on theoretical and numerical work for light-management in solar cells.
Olindo Isabella studied electronic engineering at University of Naples Federico II. He
obtained his PhD degree from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands in
January 2013. During his PhD work he spent one year at AIST in Japan. Olindo now
works as assistant professor in the group Photovoltaic Materials and Devices of the same
university, with his research focusing on opto-electrical modelling, implementation of
advanced light management techniques, and development of high efficiency wafer-based
silicon solar cells. He is responsible for the PV laboratory and gives lectures on PV
