for Szejtli’s ultimate success in the introduction of cyclodextrins into commercially
useful applications.
His tireless efforts, dedication, and trust in the cyclodextrins helped him retain
the best of his co-workers, even when the cyclodextrin product development was
still in its infancy and so much unappreciated. Many of those young co-workers
Professor Szejtli attracted in the early 1980s are today worldwide acknowledged
cyclodextrin experts and core members of CycloLab.
Professor Szejtli has received much recognition for his immense scientific and
industrial oeuvre, but more important than all the honors he has received and the
prizes is the affection in which he is held worldwide.
Acknowledgments The authors thank Nadia Morin-Crini (Université Bourgogne FrancheComté, France) for his critical reading of early drafts of this chapter and English corrections.
Special thanks are due to Marc Fourmentin (Université du Littoral-Côte-d’Opale, France) for
illustration graphics. For Grégorio Crini, it was a great privilege and honor to write this chapter
with Éva Fenyvesi and Lajos Szente.
