Dr Thomas Porathe has a degree in Information Design from Malardalen University
in Sweden. He is currently Professor of Interaction Design at the Norwegian
University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway. He is specialising in
maritime human factors and design of maritime information systems, specifically
directed towards control room design, e-navigation and autonomous ships. He has
been working with e-Navigation since 2006 in EU projects like BLAST, EfficienSea,
MONALISA, ACCSEAS, SESAME and the unmanned ship project MUNIN. He
is active in the International Association of Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse
Authorities (IALA).
Ørnulf Jan Rødseth has an MSc in electronic engineering from 1983. He is a wellknown researcher for more than 25 years in maritime information and communication technology. In the last years, he has worked mainly with autonomous ship
technology and maritime digitalization. He is Senior Scientist at SINTEF Ocean and
is the general manager in Norwegian Forum for Autonomous Ships. He is a member
of ISO TC8 and IEC TC80 and regularly meets at IMO as observer for ISO.
Dr Vincentius Rumawas e arned his bachelor’s degree (BEng) in Offshore
Engineering from the Faculty of Marine Technology, Surabaya Institute of
Technology (ITS), Indonesia. He also studied industrial psychology and holds a
Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from the University of Airlangga, Surabaya, and a
Master of Science (MSc) degree in Educational Psychology from the University
of 17 Agustus 1945, Surabaya. Rumawas had been working as a Lecturer and
Researcher in the Faculty of Marine Technology, ITS, for 13 years before he continued for his master’s degree (MSc) in the Department of Marine Technology,
NTNU, specializing in marine structures. Rumawas pursued his study and gained
his PhD from the same university. His research topic was Human Factors in
Marine Design which lies within the corridor of risk and reliability engineering.
Rumawas’ previous research and projects cover a wide range of topics from structural engineering, sea transportation, port management, logistics and supply chain
management, safety in shipping, to human- and organization-related problems.
Currently, Rumawas is working as a Senior Working Environment and Human
Factors Consultant in WE sustain.no.
