Dr Steven C. Mallam is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Technology, Natural
Sciences and Maritime Sciences, University of South-Eastern Norway. He obtained
his PhD in Human Factors from Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden)
and Master of Science specializing in Ergonomics from Memorial University of
Newfoundland (Canada). Steven’s primary research interests involve the analysis and
optimization of end-users and their work processes within complex socio-technical
systems through improved knowledge mobilization, training and design.
Terje Moen has a BSc in the field of Electronics and has been Senior Advisor at
SINTEF Transport Research since 1990. His areas of expertise are research methodologies with emphasis on instrumentation, data acquisition and analysis and high
focus of advanced vehicle technology, driver assistance systems and cooperative
intelligent transport systems (C-ITS).
Ian Nimmo has a degree in Electrical Engineering from the UK, 10 years as the
Process Controls Engineering Manager for Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd. in
the UK at Teesside Operations, over 50 years of experience in the processing industry. He was involved in all the relevant standards and guidelines and is working for
Honeywell as a Senior Engineering Fellow researching Abnormal Operations as the
Program Director for the ASM TM1 Consortium for ten years. Currently, he is the
President and CEO of User Centred Design Services Inc. for over 20 years (recently
Inducted into the Process Control Magazines Hall of Fame).
Dr Kjetil Nordby i s a Professor in Interaction Design with the Institute for Design
at The Oslo School of Architecture and Design and leader of the Ocean Industries
Concept Lab. He holds a master’s in Interaction Design from Umeå Design School
and a PhD from the Oslo School of Architecture and Design. Kjetil has extensive
experience working as project leader, researcher, interaction and industrial designer
for industry and academia.
Sondre Øie is a Principal Consultant in DNV GL with 12 years of experience of providing technical advice and management consultancy to clients in various high-risk
industries, including petroleum, rail and hydro power. His expertise within Human
Factors and risk management is built on top of a MSc degree in organizational psychology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Sondre has been
working mostly with offshore safety and major accident prevention, particularly
within the domain of oil well drilling, focusing on well control and integrity. In the
recent years Sondre has increased his focus towards the maritime industry and is now
primarily working with projects involving the design and operation of autonomous
