In the previous chapter we discussed the general considerations of online optimization and the various online optimization algorithms. In this chapter we
will demonstrate the application of online optimization to real-life accelerator problems. These experiments may serve as examples for setting up online
optimization for other problems.
The applications to be described are
• Linac-to-booster (LTB) trajectory steering,
• Storage ring injection kicker bump matching [57],
• Storage ring coupling minimization [57], and
• Storage ring dynamic aperture optimization [60].
All experiments were conducted on the SPEAR3 accelerator complex. The
RCDS algorithm was the main method used for these experiments.
There have been many applications of online optimization on other accelerators, including experiments similar to the ones to be discussed here. Some
of these experiments will also be described.
