The same library approach was used in our laboratory to understand the principles required for the design of molecular electronics [138–143] and other functions,
including complex catalytic systems. The few examples illustrated here demonstrate that Staudinger’s dream of bridging macromolecular, organic, supramolecular chemistry, biology, and medicine is currently one of the most active topics of
research in the field of macromolecular chemistry, of whose existence he convinced
the organic chemistry community.
