2.18 Kaempferia pulchra Ridl.
Kaempferia pulchra is a perennial herb of the Zingiberaceae family. It is cultivated
in some tropical countries, including Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
In Myanmar, it is known colloquially as Shan-pan-oot (Fig. 64), and has been used
extensively for the treatment of coughs, diabetes mellitus, urinary infections, in
blood stimulation, as a carminative, a heat quencher, deodorant, and diuretic. It
