In the period 1930–1953, in the auditorium of the Academy building a
number of stained glass windows has been installed with depictions of prominent scientists from Groningen. Looking from the auditorium at the lectern,
the window most to the front has the physician and anatomist Petrus Camper
(1722–1789) and Kapteyn (Fig. 10.7). Kapteyn is holding a Jacob’s staff, an
instrument used in pre-telescopic days to measure the angles on the sky between
stars or other objects.
