5 Fourth Industrial Revolution and India
1. Setting up of 10,000 megawatts decentralized ground/stilt-mounted gridconnected solar or other renewable energy-based power plants. Under this
component, power plants of 500 kilowatts to 2 megawatts will be set up by
individual/group of farmers or panchayats or cooperatives or other village
bodies/associations.
2. Installation of 1.75 million stand-alone solar pumps each having a capacity up
to 7.5 horsepower to be used for farming purposes. This program specifically
intended to replace diesel pumps in off-grid areas.
3. Solarization of one million grid-connected agriculture pumps belonging to
individual farmers who have grid-connected agriculture pumps.
At present, the renewable energy capacity is around 75 gigawatts (Fig. 5.18) and
barring the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka,
and Tamil Nadu that have performed well with over 6 gigawatts capacity, all other
states have lagged behind so far (Fig. 5.19). Till such time, states of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal,
and Haryana (Figs. 5.20 and 5.21) take proactive steps, achieving 175 gigawatts will
be a distant dream.
