5.3 Carbon-Based Economies Will Eventually Prove Cataclysmic
165
Based on the overall analysis of energy situation and challenges that India faces
currently and may face in future as well, an assessment of the feasibility of achieving
low-carbon economy goal by 2030 is provided in Box 4.
One can infer from the above assessment that next three to four decades will be
tough for India. With more and more climate-related disasters of increasing intensity and frequency striking various countries, India will come under severe stress of
adopting low-carbon pathway, especially in rural areas. India’s energy strategy for
enabling a low-carbon economy should include not only the installation of new technologies for renewable energy, but due consideration must be given to a nationwide
survey of use of biomass-based fuel. This will be helpful in setting the strategy and
goal for the next decade or two.
