Ni and Se is observed in the structure of the mixed selenide/selenolate cluster
[Ni 20 Se 12 (SeMe) 10 ]
2À (7, Figure 13.5) [29]. The cluster contains a Ni 20 Se 12 core that
is stabilized by surface Me groups bonded to Se centers. The interstitial selenide
ligands (Se
2À ) arise from SeaC bond scission reactions of the MeSe
À reagent.

The utility of silylated chalcogen reagents as a soluble delivery source of ‘‘E
2À ’’ has
developed into a powerful method for the generation of nanocluster materials.
