12. The following molecules are identical except
for the structure of dipolar headgroups. Place
the molecules in order of increasing headgroup dipole moment and discuss the differences in the way these molecules aggregate
into a monolayer at the air–water interface, if
any difference exists.

2011, Academic Press, San Diego, pp. 31–139. This is a
classic textbook on the subject, but is probably for the
more advanced student. Chapters 3 through 8 are particularly relevant to this text.

Singapore, 1–140. This is an excellent book for those
interested in H- and J-aggregation.

Chapter 2 contains some excellent applications of the
particle-in-a-box model.

Spectroscopy, 2nd ed. 1996, Saunders College Publishing,

provides some useful background on MO diagrams of
organic molecules. This book is an excellent read for
those interested in the kinds of electronic excitations
discussed in Section 5.4.2.
