The compounds MoS 2 and WS 2 are well known as solid-state lubricants.
Conventionally, especially MoS 2 powder is widely used as solid lubricant, because
the different layers bond by van der Waals forces glide easily on each other. Furthermore, these platelets act as distance holders between the two metal surfaces
and eliminate direct contact, this minimizes metal wear. This is of special importance in the case of extreme loads, where oils and greases, used as lubricants,
