6 Fabrication of Robust Biomolecular Patterns …
Scheme 6.1 Scheme of the patterning of PNHSMA by reactive μCP of PEG 500 -NH 2 and areaselective immobilization of molecules from solution to the remaining reactive areas of the PNHSMA
film. The layer of PEG serves as a blocking layer and prevents non-specific adsorption (NSA) of
fluoresceinamine, BSA or probe DNA. Finally, the hybridization of dye-labeled target DNA of
the surface presenting complementary probe DNA was investigated. Reproduced from Adv. Funct.

6.3 Functionalization of PNHSMA Films by Reactive µCP
Using a featureless PDMS stamp PEG 500 -NH 2 was transferred and coupled covalently to NHS ester groups exposed at the surface of PNHSMA films. In FTIR spectra
several bands attributed to the grafted PEG were observed after the grafting reaction (Fig. 6.1a). Among these are the band at 1107 cm
−1 , assigned to the C–O–C
vibration, as well as the bands at 1262 and 1460 cm
−1 attributed to the EG CH 2
twist vibration, and the EG CH 2 scissor vibration, respectively. More importantly,
two new bands at 1645 cm
−1 (amide I) and 1543 cm
−1 (amide II) were observed
after the coupling reaction with PEG 500 -NH 2 . This observation demonstrates that the
