TRL is an indicator of the development of a “new technology” (Fig. D.1). It covers
the space from Laboratory scale research (TRL = 1–2) to laboratory proof of
concept (TRL 3–4), to technology development (TRL = 5–6) and Demo (TRL 7–8)
up to on stream processes (TRL = 9).
