transformation of chemical energy into electricity. This is a big improvement over
internal combustion engines which has a much lower efficiency.
Since O 2 is readily available in the atmosphere, it is only necessary to supply the
fuel cell with H 2 which can come from a variety of sources.
Other chemicals (e.g., CH 3 OH) can be used instead of H 2 (Fig. C.1).
