3.3.1 Electromagnetic Cloaking by Transformation Optics
Transformation optics deals with the manipulation of the flow of light by coordinate transformation achieved by the employment of metamaterials. In this method,
the relative permittivity and permeability of the cloak are so tailored that the incident plane wave gets bent around the object and passes undistorted. The bending is
possible because the cloak distorts the space in such a manner that light is forced
to avoid the object and travel around it. In a way, the region of space where the
object is present becomes unavailable for the propagation of light. Since space and
the associated coordinate system are being transformed, the phenomenon is called
transformation optics. This method of cloaking by metamaterials was proposed by
