The IAC: A Dream Come True (1971–Present)
The author’s address at the First Economics Studies Workshop was published
in Canarias ante el cambio (La Laguna: Banco de Bilbao, 1981). The study of
the social and economic impact of astrophysics in the Canaries referred to is
by Juan José Díaz Hernández, El impacto económico y social de la Astrofísica en
Canarias (La Laguna: IAC, 2018).

been many other such ‘perspectives’ published, including one by the US
National Research Council, Astronomy and Astrophysics in the New Millenium,
Panel Reports (Washington, D.C.: National Research Council) and C. Warden
(ed.), Science with 8–10 m telescopes in the era of ELTs and the JWST (La
Laguna: IAC, 2009). The author describes the role of the IAC and its
