Observatorio Astronómico del Teide (Tenerife) de enero de 1964 a julio de
1965’, Revista de la Real Academia de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales de
Madrid, LXI, 1 (1967). The author’s doctoral thesis, Contribución al conocimiento del medio interplanetario por fotometría y polarimetría de la luz zodiacal (University of Madrid, 1969), gives a full account of work done on the
zodiacal light with the Bordeaux Telescope. Other works covering ZL research
at Teide Observatory include R. Dumont and F. Sánchez, ‘Recent polarization measurements over the sky at Tenerife Island’, in J. L. Weinberg (ed.),
The Zodiacal Light and the Interplanetary Medium (NASA SP-150, 1967);

III. All sky survey from Teide 1964–1975 with emphasis on off-Ecliptic features’, Astronomy and Astrophysics, 51, 393 (1976). B. H. May’s doctoral thesis, A survey of radial velocities in the zodiacal dust cloud (Imperial College,
2007) describes his work at Izaña using a Fabry–Perot interferometer and
gives full references for past and present zodiacal light studies.
Chapter 6
Astronomical Site Testing (1961–1977)
The results of all the site-testing campaigns at the Canarian Observatories up
to 1985 are summarized by F. Sánchez, ‘Astronomy in the Canary Islands’,
Vistas in Astronomy, 28, 417. A more detailed account of the many site-testing
campaigns at the Observatories is given in C.  Muñoz-Tuñón (ed.), Site
Properties of the Canarian Observatories (New Astronomy Reviews, 42,
395–572, 1998).
