Foreword II
It is my pleasure to write a foreword to a book authored by my colleagues. The
present book contains eight chapters starting with the basic concepts of stress and
strain ending with solutions to the problem in geomechanics. The other chapters
have clearly brought out the treatment of two-dimensional problems in Cartesian
and polar coordinates. The book stands out for its chapter on solutions to problems
in geomechanics because such an exclusive chapter dealing with geomechanics is
generally not found in the books on elasticity.
I hope that the book fills the gap between the theory and practice. I congratulate
the authors on their effort to bring out such a book and I wish them the best in their
endeavour.
