vortices can be reduced by corner fillets which eventually turn the square rectangular
section into an octagonal section.
The octagonal optical-access windows allow for direct flow measurement techniques such as PSP (Pressure Sensitive Paint), LDV (Laser Doppler Velocimetry),
PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) which would necessitate corrections for spherical aberration with a curved window in a circular cross section configuration. The
wind tunnel is dedicated for research for both aeronautic and aerospace applications,
including studies of vortical flows, wake vortex, separated flows, blade-tip clearance,
CROR (Counter Rotating Open Rotor) blades.
3.1.3 Low Reynolds Number Wind Tunnel
The ISAE-SUPAERO Low Reynolds number (SaBRe) facility is a closed circuit
wind tunnel designed for the study of micro or macro unmanned aerial systems (UAS
or MAS) in both powered and unpowered configurations to study particular issues
due to propeller/wing interaction, flow control, drag reduction, etc. It is also used
for studying other types of aircraft or land vehicles. It has a rectangular test section
of 1.2 × 0.8 m
2 and 2.40 m long (see Fig. 3.7). The wind tunnel is driven by a fan
