Fig. 22.3 Schematic
diagram of the cylindrical
bird impacting flat blade
model
The boundary elements of the flat blade are restricted by the translational freedom.
The bird is hitting the center of the flat at a speed of 223 m/s, and the master–slave
contact is set between the bird and the flat blade. The schematic diagram of the
birdstrike model is shown in Fig. 22.3 (taking the cylindrical bird hitting a flat blade
as an example.
22.3 Dynamic Response and Simulation Results
of Birdstrike
The PAM-SHOCK solver of PAMCRASH is used to solve the birdstrike problem with
large transient deformation. PAMCRASH is a collision simulation software package
launched by ESI Group, which is widely used in the field of automobile collision.
Among them, PAM-SHOCK is more suitable for high-speed impact environments
for its powerful converge in large deformation calculations.
The stress contours of the four shapes of birds striking the flat blade are similar.
Here, the cylindrical bird with hemispheres at both ends is taken as an example, as
shown in Fig. 22.4. The high-stress circular area in the center is the impact area,
and the stress contour perfectly shows the process of stress wave propagation from
the central area to the surroundings. The flat blade has reached the ultimate strength
under the impact of the four shapes of bird, so it is impossible to evaluate the impact
damage level of different shapes of birds through the peak stress.
Figure 22.5 shows the impact process of birdstrike. Since the four shapes of bird
have similar birdstrike processes, here we take a cylindrical bird with hemispheres
at both ends as an example. Some particles of the bird hit the flat blade at 5 ms, and
most of the bird particles hit the blade at 10 ms. By 15 ms, all the bird particles have
