of physiology in Stockholm in 1926. It used the original Wikman matrix for one
side, and the inscription “conventus physiologorum internationalis duodecimus
Holmiae MCMXXVI” on the other side.
In 1821, the Swedish Academy suggested honouring Scheele with a medallion,
but it would take until 1827 before it was realised (Fig. 3.16). The image was based
on Wikman’s medallion. Wikman’s image was also used to create an epitaph in the
church of Köping at the 40th anniversary of Scheele’s death in 1826.
