10.1 Introduction
People can understand that mass cutting of trees will not lead the future of construction to good ecology, scientists looking for answers to the question “What materials
can be used without harming the environment?”.
Given the global environmental situation on the planet, scientists are constantly
looking for new ways to conserve greenery on the continents, to introduce new,
and safer and more progressive production technologies. As an old material which
ancients used before bamboo is versatile grass which people can use in different
industries with applying new creative way of using it. In the twenty-first century,
bamboo as an innovation in production takes a big step forward, and makes a big
influence in people’s daily lives.
Bamboo fibers favorably differ from many others, because in addition to all the
advantages of natural fibers have unique properties as hypoallergenicity; antibacterial
properties that persist even after prolonged use; high wear resistance, resistance to
burnout; hygroscopicity; the ability to retain ultraviolet rays; natural antistatic effect;
has potential of antioxidant.
Bamboo is a type of grass that grows in tropical and subtropical climates, in natural
conditions in Asia, Europe, America, Africa, and Australia as well in Oceania. It is
considered a twenty-first century material it is durable, light and does not absorb
water. Bamboo is a utilitarian plant, depending on the treatment, can vary in properties. It can be firm and stable, also soft and elastic. Some use it in building houses,
covering floors, and others for sewing textiles. In the twenty-first century, this material
used in woodworking industry; pulp and paper industry; textile industry; bioenergetics from grass; food and beverages; automotive industry; high technology area;
agriculture; also being used as packaging and as an ingredient in cosmetic products.
In everyday life thanks to the ecological properties of raw bamboo can be found
in your kitchen in the form of wooden spoons, baskets and bowls, which are usually
varnished and painted. Big competition bamboo makes up plastic, as it is environmentally friendly. Covers, keyboards and even computer mice are made of polished
wood. Bamboo as wood is used in furniture, huts, sailing ships, masts, carpets,
curtains, pots, paper, clothes, and many more applications (Jamatia 2015). Bamboo
coal creates clean air and reduces residues of contaminants; bicycles from bamboo
are still produced and new types are being created.
What kinds of bamboo can be used as building materials? How and where can
bamboo be used and in which area?
Theoretical analysis of the material of bamboo is based on a deep comprehension
of the fact that in architecture, there is no material that does not cause harm to the
environment. As a plant, bamboo is a fast-growing and strong material; however, it
