cases in the triadic framework, efficacious management through entropic thinking is
key to success.
The predicative entropic theory embraces the ontological position of the
mechanical theory rejecting both the ontology of the caloric theory and the ontology
of energeticism. But, it departs from the mechanical theory of heat in placing the
second law as its centerpiece with the implication that entropy growth potential is
the driver of all change with energy or available energy to be its proxy. This is a
radically different understanding of the second law, which is well expressed by
Joshua Floyd [38]:
The point of re-examining the second law in the context of the sustainability of evolutionary systems is not to say everything is OK with the industrial age—far from it. The
point is to show…that the tendency for living systems to become more complex is not
somehow in defiance of the second law. In fact, it is more meaningful to characterise the
phenomenon described by the second law as a fundamental enabler of all activity, and
hence of all life.
Fig. 8.13 Production of work results from the extraction of heat powered by EGP. Note that all
reversible-like processes have their entropy growth delayed. However, eventually all work
produced will be dissipated or the orders created by work will be destroyed so that ultimately the
delayed entropy growth will be realized resulting in heat as the ultimate end results
