temperature or in baked coatings at elevated temperatures. The reaction is
irreversible. Exposure to high temperature or to solventsdoes not cause the
coating to soften or melt.
8.2.1E poxy
Epoxyr esins on their own are not suitable for protective coatings because
when pigmented and applied, they dry to ahard, brittle film with very poor
chemical resistance. By copolymerizing with other resins, the epoxy resins
willf orm ad urablep rotective coating.
8.2.2P olyamine Epoxy
1. Resistance: Resistantt oa cids, acid salts, alkalies, and organic
solvents.
2. Temperature resistance: 2258 F/107 8 Cdry; l908 F/888 Cw et.
3. Limitations: Not resistant to UV light, harder and less flexible than
other epoxies; less tolerant of moisture during application.
4. Applications: Widest range of chemical and solvent resistance of
epoxies; used for piping and vessels.
8.2.3P olyamide Epoxy
1. Resistance: Resistance inferior to that of polyamine epoxy; only
partiallyresistant to acids,acid salts,alkalies, and organic solvents;
resistant to moisture.
2. Temperature resistance: 2258 F/108 8 Cdry; 1508 F/668 Cw et.
3. Limitations: Not resistant to UV light; inferior chemical resistance.
4. Applications: Used on wet surfaces underw ater,a si nt idal zone
areas of pilings, oil rigs, etc.
8.2.4A liphatic Polyamine
1. Resistance: Partially resistant to acids, acids alts, and organic
solvents.
2. Temperature resistance: 2258 F/108 8 Cdry; 1508 F/668 Cw et.
3. Limitations: Film formed has greater permeability than other
epoxies.
4. Application:U sed forp rotection againstm ild atmospheric
corrosion.
8.2.5E stersofE poxies and Fatty Acids
1. Resistance: Resistanttow eathering and UV light.
2. Temperature resistance: 2258 F/108 8 Cdry; 1508 F/668 Cw et.
