Contemporary Churches of Czestochowa—Architectural …
165
It seems that all needs are currently being met and only further territorial development of the city could result in the construction of new churches. In the years 1945–
2005, 37 new churches were built and put into service in Czestochowa, and currently
6 new religious buildings are being constructed: God’s Mercy Parish; church of
St.Andrzej Bobola; Pentecost parish; church of St. Faustyna Kowalska; Parish of St.
Gaspar del Bufalo and St. Melchior Grodziecki [6]. Parish churches were located in
all Czestochowa districts, very often (especially those built after 1989) in the district
centers on imposing plots, constituting an important urban element. Buildings with a
disadvantageous location are a throwback to the difficult communist times. Figure 7
shows a fairly even distribution of churches throughout the city of Czestochowa.
Most of them are located near the main communication routes of the city, many large
districts (e.g. Tysi˛ aclecie, Północ, Wrzosowiak) have several churches, which means
that all the faithful have a place of worship within walking distance, without the need
to use a vehicle or public transport.
