used as a dispersant. Volumetric particle size distribution was determined by means
of the differential curve, as well as cumulative curve of grain-size distribution.
Consistency of mortars was tested in line with PN-85/B-04500 standard. This
method consists in immersion of a slump cone under its own weight in the mortar
placed in a suitable cone-shaped container. A result of this test is the cone immersion
depth. Consistency was tested directly after mixing of ingredients.
The flexural and compressive strength of mortars were tested in accordance with
PN-EN 196-1 standard, on beam samples with dimensions 160 × 40 × 40 mm.
The flexural strength was determined during a three-point bending test at support
spacing 100 mm. The compressive strength was determined on both ends formed
after breaking. Testing was conducted after 28 days of mortars curing in water. Test
results given are average values of tests conducted on three sample beams.
The measurement of the rheological parameters of the cement pastes were carried
out using a rotational viscometer with co-axial cylinders, Haake Mars III type. The
same procedure for the preparation samples for measurements and the same measurement conditions were maintained. During preparation and when conducting tests the
temperature in the laboratory was kept at 20 ± 2 °C. After hand-stirring the mixing
cement with water (3 min), the sample was immediately loaded into the cylinder for
