17.5 Typology of Wasteland
As per the classification of wastelands prepared by National Remote Sensing Agency
(NRSA) and published at Wastelands Atlas, 2005, four categories of wastelands of
Level-I have been identified in the present area under study. These are (i) undulating
upland with or without scrub, (ii) sands, (iii) barren rocky area and (iv) mining wastes.
The spatial occurrences of these four categories of wastelands have been shown
on the Map-2 prepared on the basis of LISS III Images (Image-1) and land use map
prepared by Land and Land Reform Department, Govt. of West Bengal. Though
