15.5 Discussion and Conclusion
The present study focuses on the drought-induced water scarcity and stress of
Purulia and as a result local people’s cope and resilience against them as the form of
migration. Hazard hotspot zones are identified through the spatially distributed SPI,
and those are linked with the fluctuation soil moisture and agricultural production
fluctuation. SPI proportionally corresponds with the drainage density and production fluctuation. With the help of overlay map, the study proves that southeastern
and eastern blocks are severely affected by drought, and that is why it rapidly
encourages labor-related moves. The primary survey and feasibility study through
graphical and CPLEX method make the study unique and interesting. Here, data
from secondary and primary survey about environmental shocks supplement with
additional geospatial data. Designed structured questionnaires are used for primary
survey. In many contexts, however, new data collection will be required, and we
hope that these concerns will inform our fellow researchers of longitudinal surveys
that increasingly take environmental factors into account. Lack of job opportunities
within the state force local people to migrate to the neighboring districts or states in
the recent decade. Sometimes it has been noticed that the higher-paid workers are
permanently settling there with their family. So, this study provides a robust evidence of drought-induced migration which becomes their means of adaptation
within the harsh environment.
The observations from developing and developed countries are also harmonizing
the available results of our study. Using ERHS questionnaire Gray and Mueller
(2012) investigated drought-induced human mobility in rural Ethiopia which is
closely resembled to our study. Dercon and Hoddinott’s study in 2009 also
