mentioned fields, the concept of subjective well-being has its significant application
in the field of tourism (Pyke et al. 2016). Well-being, from a subjective point of view,
underlines maximizing satisfaction and minimizing pain as much as possible.
To measure well-being, we frequently use life satisfaction (Zhang et al. 2019). The
modern concept of subjective well-being is not in conflict with the traditional concept
of doing business in hospitality facilities directed toward financial and development
aims. On the contrary, this new concept even contributes to better understanding of
the impact that the quality of hospitality services has on the consumers’ quality of
life (Andereck and Nyaupane 2011).
3 Wellness Services and Well-Being
In the travel industry, researchers are increasingly focused on the social outcomes
of tourism development, such as the quality of tourists’ lives, subjective well-being,
and happiness. Tourist destinations have the aim of achieving their financial development through achieving subjective well-being in tourists. The managers and creators
of tourism policy can positively affect the lives of tourists through the concept
of subjective well-being (Andereck and Nyaupane 2011). Experiences based in
tourism impact the quality of people’s lives and the improvement of their subjective well-being (Filep 2014). The concept of well-being focuses on the way tourism
pleases tourists’ psychological, social and spiritual factors, whereas healthy lifestyle
connects physical factors of behaviour to tourism (Damijani´ c 2019).
The word wellness originates from connecting two words: well-being and fitness.
The concept of wellness has its history based on therapy and treatment, and besides
medical, it also has spiritual and religious connotations (Voigt and Pforr 2014). The
term wellness was defined as a means for establishing well-being, which is why the
tourism industry adopted this term. Thus wellness has become the common idea in
society, which is often used by the media and advertisers in order to promote modern
products and services used for achieving well-being. Initially, well-being was a part
of sociology and philosophy, but with time the research spread to disciplines such as
psychology, medicine and economy. Tourism studies have become more focused on
well-being in the recent several decades, both in theory and in methodology (Gabor
and Oltean 2019).
In a recent study survey, respondents were questioned about how they achieve
a level of well-being, answering that they mostly achieve it by visiting wellness
centres, followed by taking exercises and healthy nutrition. These results show
that the consumers achieve a certain level of well-being through tourism. It can be
concluded that tourism and wellness become one through physical activity, healthy
nutrition, and wellness treatments (Smith and Deikmann 2017).
The term wellness is usually used to describe the healthy balance of mind, body,
and spirit, which leads to the overall feeling of well-being. More frequently, people
strive to establish a balance in their hard and stressful lives, so the wellness services
are considered useful in achieving such a balance. The users of wellness services
