completed questionnaires were qualified for final analysis of tourist and recreational
activity of the inhabitants of rural communes.
The group of respondents inhabiting rural communes did not differ significantly
from the total sample for the Pozna´ n Metropolis. A little over half of the inhabitants of
rural communes were women (56%). The biggest group comprised people between
30 and 39 years old (29%) and in their forties (every fifth person); with secondary
(42%), vocational (36%), or higher (22%) education. The respondents determined
their current financial situation as good or average (50% and 46%, respectively).
While the total household monthly-income was slightly higher than the average for
Poland, that is, PLN 4.1–6.0 thousand and PLN 2.1–4.0 thousands (42% each) was
indicated the most frequently.
5 Almost half of the respondents were employed in the
private sector (44%). Respondents also indicated owning a car (25%), a bike (23%), a
garden or an allotment (14%), and a tent (11%). These are goods that might influence
participation in tourist and recreational trips within the Pozna´ nm. However, some
sport-equipment, including roller skates, skis, hunting and fishing equipment or a
motorcycle, was indicated significantly less often (6–4%).
5 Analysis of Recreational and Tourist Activity
of the Inhabitants of Rural Communes of the Pozna ´
n
Metropolis
Tourist and recreational activities undertaken by the surveyed inhabitants of rural
communes of the Pozna´ n Metropolis, regardless of the basic demographic features,
lasted mainly one day (67%); 2–4–day trips with accommodation were significantly
less frequent (24%). Men participated in short-term one-day activities (73%) slightly
more frequently. This could be due to respondents being more likely to engage in
other forms of recreation, including attending gyms, everyday jogging and cycling.
Furthermore, women relatively were more likely to participate on longer trips (5 days
or more) within the area of the Metropolis (8%). In addition, respondents showed
very little interest in longer trips to areas located relatively close to their homes
(Fig. 2).
People willing to engage in one-day activities were those aged between 40–
49 year-olds and 60–69 year-olds (75% and 77%, respectively) (Fig. 3). This can be
connected to crossing some conventional thresholds when the ‘social/media pressure’ to stay young and active over forty increases, or to entering the retirement
age when more free time is available and care for maintaining good physical condition increases. 2–4–day recreation was indicated more frequently by young persons
enjoying active recreation with their families. However, also 50 and 70-year-olds
showed slightly higher interest in weekend recreation (every fifth person).
5 According to the Communication of the President of the Central Statistical Office of 9th February
2017, regarding average remuneration in the national economy in 2016, “the average remuneration
in the national economy in 2016 was PLN 4,047.21” (CSO 2017).
