The potential supply of OTEC power generation in East Asia (China, Japan, and
South Korea) is 46.1% of total electricity consumption levels in 2017.
9.3 Conclusion
In this chapter, four kinds of potential low-carbon technologies for power generation
are introduced in detail, which are considered as potential ones for East Asian
Low-Carbon Community. In which, the wind power generation shows the highest
potential supply, which is China 495%, Japan 209%, and South Korea 130%. The
next one is PV, which is China 89–148%, Japan 22–27%, and South Korea 11–13%.
The third one is OTEC, which is 46.1% for East Asia (China, Japan, and South
Korea), and the solar thermal power generation potential supply is China 9.2–20.8%,
Japan 2.5–3.3%, and South Korea 1.3–1.6%.
From this study we know that the wind power generation, PV, and OTEC have
great potential contribution of clean electricity toward sustainable development of
East Asian Low-Carbon Community. In addition, the solar thermal power generation
also shows a good choice for China in clean electricity production. Thus, the
governments in East Asian Low-Carbon Community should stimulate their development widely and effectively by carrying out effective energy policies to realize a
sustainable decarbonized society.
In addition, geothermal power generation, wave and tidal power, nuclear
power, waste heat, biogeneration, hydro (electric) power, ocean energy from concentration gradients, snow and ice heat, fuel cells, and biomass and biogas also
have potential for East Asian Low-Carbon Community although they are not
introduced here.
