6.5 Model Coding and Implications
Optimization of distributed energy systems is very important. Newly emerging
problems in DER are increasingly large, complex, and difficult to solve. Many
professional software packages have been developed to support optimization theory,
such as AMPL, GAMS, XPRESS-MP, ZINO, CPLEX, STORM, MATLAB,
LINDO, and LINGO. Here, all optimization problems are solved using the
LINGO software package.
LINGO is a simple tool that utilizes the power of linear and nonlinear optimization to concisely formulate and solve large problems and then analyze the solutions.
It provides a completely integrated package that includes a powerful language for
expressing optimization models, a full feature environment for building and editing
problems, and a set of fast built-in solvers (LINDO Systems Inc 2008).
Figure 6.2 shows the LINGO programming window. The outer window, labeled
LINGO, is the main frame window in which all other windows are contained. The
top of the frame window contains the command menus and command toolbar. The
smaller child window, labeled LINGO model, is a model window. Models are
entered directly into this window, according to specific formulas.
If no formulation errors are encountered during compilation, LINGO will invoke
the appropriate internal solver to begin searching for the optimal solution to the
