consumption. Co-benefit effects vary depending on energy consumption structures,
switching among fossil fuels or to non-fossil fuels, and energy utilization technologies. Increased carbon taxes lead to the introduction of new energy technologies,
which may have different effects on carbon, SO 2 , and NO x abatements in different
countries. Existing emissions with high removal rates will be less affected by carbon
taxes. In this case, SO 2 and NO x emissions can feasibly be further reduced by relying
on CO 2 abatement technology.
