Wherein I is the pollution index of component i; C i denotes the measured
content of component i and C 0 denotes the background value (control value)
of component i or detection limit of the standard detection method.
Where the background value (control value) is expressed by a content range, the
equation is re-written as follows:
I ¼
C À C m
j
j
C max À C m
ð2:5Þ
Wherein C m is the median of the background value (control value) range
and C max is the maximum value; other symbols represent the same as above.
I
1 means uncontaminated. I > 1 means contaminated, and the larger
the I value, the heavier the contamination.
2.3 Brief Summary
This chapter describes in detail the methodology of basic environmental investigation into MSWLFs, HWLFs and OCS which are typical groundwater contamination sites. The investigation covers all HWLFs and key MSWLFs and OCS
which are screened according to their types. The process and content of investigation vary widely among the three typical sites. The process of investigation into
MSWLFs and HWLFs highlights monitoring well deployment and groundwater
sampling and monitoring, while for OCS, the process is more complicated and
encompasses the sampling and monitoring of groundwater, surface water and soil.
The indicator system for analytical testing is also different, with more indicators for
OCS and less for HWLFs. After a detailed investigation that makes clear the
environmental status, pollution source intensity evaluation can be conducted for
groundwater contaminations sites.
