⑥ Monitoring and control of groundwater
The hazardous wastes disposal landfill is operated by the New Area Solid Wastes
Disposal Co., Ltd., and is put under the environmental supervision of the Municipal
Environmental Protection Bureau. Six environmental monitoring wells were drilled
around the landfill in early period to perform regular groundwater monitoring, and
the six groundwater monitoring wells in the landfill were demonstrated to not
comply with the Class III standards of the Standard for Groundwater Quality
according to the analysis on the daily monitoring data.
⑦ Information on environmental sensitive points
According to on-site visits and surveys, the groundwater is not used as a source for
drinking water and groundwater sources protection areas are not reserved, since the
city residents mainly drink water from the Yangtze River. The field visits and
surveys also show that emerging springs do not occur around the test points.
Therefore there is not any groundwater environmental sensitive point around the
hazardous waste disposal site.
(2) Investigation by construction of monitoring wells
① Stratigraphic lithology
n June 2015, the investigation unit commissioned a third party to conduct a geological survey on the hazardous waste disposal site, where a borehole is drilled with
the 300 model hydrographic drilling rig, from June 18th, 2015 to July 12th, 2015,
with a total drilling depth of 53.2 m.
The hazardous wastes landfill site of Maishan Road is sited in the Jianbi-Dagang
Sinian stratum, which is approximately E-W trending and has a gentle occurrence
(∠20°). The bedrock is in slabs or blocks, including dolomite, dolomite limestone,
marble, quartzite, phyllite, etc. The hydrogeological characteristics of the monitoring hole are as follows, according to the drilling samples and the regional
geological data.
0–6 m backfill stratum: It is grayish yellow-gray-mottled, dominated by grits,
rubbles, brick, lime-ash, etc., mixed with a small amount of silty clay and with a
loose structure. It contains hard impurities accounting for about 35–75%, locally
mingled with a small amount of domestic refuses, with uneven components and
about 3 years of landfill period.
6–9 m strongly weathered dolomite: It has clearly-structured host rock (which is
dolomite) and very developed joint fissures, being grayish white, wet and dense.
The rocks are basically weathered into disk-like or short cylindrical shape, fragile
under impact of hammer.
9–22 m moderately weathered dolomite: It has clearly-structured host rock
(which is dolomite) and developed joint fissures, being grayish white, wet and
dense. The rocks are basically weathered into short and long cylindrical shapes.
22–45 m marbleized limestone: It has clearly-structured marbleized host rock
(which is limestone) and developed joint fissures, being grayish white-grayish blue,
