③ Process flow of the hazardous wastes disposal site
The general process flow of the landfill is shown in Fig. 5.104.
(1) Landfilling operation
The wastes, after being solidified/stabilized, are transported to the landfill area by
dump truck and are spread and compacted by bulldozers. Wastes of different grades
shall be mixed and filled during backfilling to reduce the landfilled volume and
increase the volume of wastes treated. The wastes mutually incompatible shall be
landfilled separately and be isolated.
The landfill shall be integrated with the rainwater collection system to minimize
the amount of rainwater percolation and protect the impermeable membrane of the
rainwater collection system.
Landfill wastes must be dumped in the designated area, and operating record of
the landfill unit shall be taken as proper for the record and easy management.
0.5 mm thick HDPE membranes shall be covered on the backfilling area where
landfilling is being performed during rainy seasons to prevent the interference of the
rain on the landfilling operation, in view of the compactness of the unit for every
day wastes landfilling and the high permeability of materials.
Protective layer of bagged soil
600g/m 2 non-woven geotextiles
2mm thick HDPE geomembrane (primary barrier layer)
4800g/m GCL bentonite layer
6.3mm thick HDPE drainage grid
1.0mm thick HDPE geomembrane (secondary barrier layer)
Slope after excavation
